How did the Mumbai Indians’ innings fare?
Mumbai Indians’ Innings never took off in the Powerplay as well as for the rest of the innings. Aided by the spice in the wicket , Trent Boult was unstoppable in the powerplay as he dismissed 3 of the top 4 batsmen , sending them back to pavillion on their First ball of the innings . His wickets included that of Mumbai Indians ex-captain Rohit Sharma, Naman Dhar and Donald Brevis. Watch Trent Boult tear up MI’s top order here.
MI were reeling at 20-4 at the end of Trent Boult’s spell. Hardik Pandya ( 34 runs off 21 balls) and Tilak Verma (32 runs off 29 balls) tried to counter attack and stitch a partnership. However, Yuzvendra Chahal terrorized MI at Wankhede with his miserly spell of 3-11. Mumbai Indians ended with 125-9.
Was it smooth sailing for Rajasthan Royals?
The Wankhede pitch stayed true even during the 2nd innings of the match. However, having the target in sight , RR kept on taking calculated risks throughout the 20 overs . Even though MI struck regularly , with Mafaka striking in the opening over of RR innings with scalp of in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal , RR stayed ahead of the asking rate comfortably throughout their innings.
With the departure of Jos Buttler , Riyan Parag came into his own element with measured aggression, before finishing off in a hurry , ending the last 3 balls he faced with 6,6,4 off Gerald Coetzee.
